Q: Is it suitable for face photography?
A: Yes Suitable for face. Very good
Q: Can I use it with the Canon 1200d on a 50mm 1.8 lense?
A: Definitely yes.
Q: Does this work with Nikon D850?
A: Yes. People have purchased the Ring Flash to use it with the Nikon D850 and it works fine.
Q: Does this work with Pentax KP ?
A: Our ring flash light fits all Pentax cameras, and it requires a Screw for the corresponding adapter ring into the lens. You will then fixes the ring flash on the lens. This ring flash has 8 Mounting rings adapter suit for 48mm, 52mm, 55mm, 58mm, 62mm, 67mm, 72mm, and 77mm lenses. Please compare whether your camera lens can use the corresponding adapter ring, and make a choice, thank you.
Q: is it good for video, or only flash?
A: For the video is good too, and many use it for this.
Q: Does this have to sit in the hot shoe to be powered?
A: This ring flash needs to be powered by 4 alkaline batteries. Its controller doesn't need to be connected to the hot shoe, as long as the ring flash is attached to the camera lens. In this case, it can provide constant light. If you need to take a photo with automatic flash, then the hot shoe must be linked to the camera, otherwise, you need to manually control the flash.
If you don't connect it to the hot shoe, use one of the fixed accessories (included) that can be placed on the bottom of the controller.
Q: Is it defective if only flashes one time?
A: Our ring flash provides two different modes: constant light and flash. The flash needs to be provided manually. If your ring flash still fails to flash under manual conditions, then it is defective. Please contact us to get a new ring flash.
Q: How about logistics times?
A: After the normal shipment, the goods can be received in 15-45 days. If you do not receive the goods within 60 days, we will refund your money. The order is tracked and you can receive SMS notifications.
This flash is interesting and offers four light modes... a video mode (constant light), full ring, or half ring. It does not offer E-TTL or TTL metering. It is a fully manual flash. The power can be adjusted by a couple of stops. Adjusting up and down is easy, as is switching between the modes. As expected, I did see a 1 stop difference in output when I only lit up half of the lights. i also saw a reduction in light output with the colored filters on the flash. there was a slight decrease in output with the frosted cover as well. That was all expected.
Color balance with with either of the diffusers was neutral. The other ring covers give either a tungsten balanced light or a blue light. I did not measure the color temperature, but the raw LEDs appear to be close to a 5000K daylight balance, putting the amber ring at perhaps a 3200K light and I'm guessing about a 6500K light output with the blue ring. I don't see myself using those a lot, but I could be wrong... they are in the bag.
Another nice touch in the bag is a WIDE selection of adapter rings. I am only carrying the two largest (72mm and 77mm) as they are the only ones I would use, but there were rings included down to 48mm. It should be easy to adapt to almost any SLR or DSLR camera and lens combo up to a 77mm filter ring size. It also includes a stand for the flash, but I have not checked operation with a remote trigger.
Keep in mind, this is a $50 flash including international shipping. My expectations were that it would be fairly low power, and it isn't a powerhouse, but as a ring flash, the vast majority of usage would be close-up photography. Power isn't a problem at these ranges. It is kind of plasticy feeling, but the build quality of this unit was pretty good. The ring covers all fit well, but I will be adding indexing marks to make them quicker to switch out. Overall, I think that this is a great value for anyone needing to shoot macro with a ring flash. It is fully manual, so a shooter will need to learn how to set up their camera and adjust exposure, but at this price it is hard to go wrong.
I didn't set up much, just set some batteries in front of a gray card. With the flash power set WAY down, but the flash was only about 6" from the subject. Exposure was 1/125th at f11 or f16 and ISO 6400 on a Canon 24-105 f4 lens with a Canon 80D body(I actually didn't look at the settings on the camera until I was done... I just backed down the power until it looked ok on the camera;s screen). I received the flash free in order to give it a review.
I have used with this item Pentax K3 II and Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 (all shots taken at 50mm)
I've never used a flash ring before and didn't want to spend a lot on something I don't know if I'll use. For the price, I thought it was worth trying.
Cheap and seems to work well enough. Color temperature seems to be fine and lighting is even. I still think this is worth the money as a first ring flash.
At 50mm, the flash creates a vignette on the image. The more power you use on the flash, the worse it is. This is only a con because I intended to use my 17-50mm with this lens. I'm sure it would be fine with a longer
